Everyone has something to give and everyone can make a difference.  Each of us has a responsibility to identify areas where we can help others and the greater good, and to pursue giving of ourselves, as well as setting an example to our families of our committment to giving.

There are so many different ways to give and everyone's circumstances change from time to time. The point is that you DO give and that you make this a part of your life. We live in a big world. Amazingly, some people spend their whole lives wrapped up in the minutia of what they see around them, that they fail to see the scale of need in the world.

URGENT: Unbelievably, another world crisis has occured. This time in China, in the province of Sichuan. The capital of this province, Chengdu, is the home to the national panda exhibit and tens of millions of people. This is a huge province in central China. Thousands of children have been orphaned in this area, with whole schools collapsing, buildings crumbling and people struggling to find loved ones. To date, 10,000 people are reported to have been killed. The devastation is unbelievable. Perhaps one small saving grace is the fact that this has occured in the spring, when at least the temperatures have moderated from their winter lows. Our hearts go out to the Chinese people. As tragic as this is, I am heartened by the willingness of the Chinese government to allow media and foreign aid to show the humanness of the Chinese people. These are beautiful, warm, peace loving people who care much more about their families and having a days meal, then they do about politics, media and pop culture. We can learn lessons from the Chinese people. For now though, we need to extend our help. Here is one way to donate: GOOGLE CHINA EARTHQUAKE HELP

By now you should be aware of the devastation that has occured in the oppressed nation of Myanmar (aka: Burma). A cyclone ripped through heavily populated areas of the country, virtually burying large cities such as Yangoon. 100,000 people are now reported dead and obviously millions are without necessary food, clean water and medical attention. What has frustrated the world though is the country's reluctance to accept the majority of international aid. The latest information can be found here on CNN: CNN LINK MYANMAR
Or here at the BBC: BBC LINK MYANMAR
This is yet another real world issue that people can sink their hearts into. Stay tuned to this site for more information about the atrocities taking place right now in Darfur. While we in America continue to see our own civil rights, economy and infrastructure erode, thousands of people are suffering a far worse fate. Deprived of food, water and shelter, slaughtered like sheep and denied the simply opportunities to survive, they badly need our help and attention.

Below are a few favorite causes to consider supporting. Charity is not the only way to give. You can give of your time, you can give of your money but you can also give of your heart, to do something nice for someone, to support someone when they need it, to say "no" to meanness or to frivelous hurtfulness of others. Nobody is perfect for sure. Everyone needs to feel good about what they do. But we can check our heart from time to time. We can practice acts of kindness:
